MUSIC MAGAZINE COVER ANALYSIS

 (1)

 (2)

The first thing that you notice about these to Magazine covers is the pictures, they stand out. Both of the pictures are of Band members, 1 is of the female lead singer of a rock/alternative band Paramore and 2 is a picture of the Metal band Avenged Sevenfold. As well as these main feature pictures there is also many other pictures. 1 has thumbnail pictures of the potters that are featured inside the magazine for that week’s issue as well as another small picture of the band good charlotte to advertise the article they have running on them that week. 2 has many more pictures as well was thumbnail pictures of the ‘poster special’ they have for that week, they also have a picture of The Rev, plus a picture of The king Blues lead singer to also show the interviews they have for that week also. The second thing you notice about these two magazines is the headlines and sub-headlines. You first of all notice the iconic ‘Kerrang’ title, then the main headline for that week’s issue in bold across the main feature picture, both of which are the names of the two well-known rock/metal bands. Then you notice the ‘Free’ subheading on magazine 1, which points towards the poster special pictures. The other subheadings are in orange, to keep with the colour scheme of the main feature picture, these sub-headings show what else is featured inside the magazine. Then at the bottom and top of the magazine 1 there is a list of many other bands featured for that week that would appeal to the typical alternative music audience.
After noticing the main headline in on magazine cover 2 you then see the subheading ‘facing the future without The rev’ and then a picture of The Rev himself, this tells us what the main feature of that week is about, as well as a quote from the interview with the band. We then notice the ‘8’ poster special in bright yellow before noticing the smaller subheading of the article feature of The King Blues. At the top of the magazine cover there is also a list of other bands mentioned that week. Both magazines have barcodes, a printing date and price at £2.50/99.
Both of the magazine covers are of a successful music magazine ‘Kerrang’ which appeals to their target audience by featuring many different artists and bands of pop punk, metal, alternative, rock and much more.

The first thing you notice about these two magazine covers are the pictures, they stand out a lot. All the pictures featured on the front cover of the magazines are that of band members. The main featured picture of Rock sound is Blink 182 band member Mark Hoppus and Fall out Boy band member Pete Wentz. The band Fall out boy are the main featured picture on Big Cheese which has more pictures than Rock Sound on their cover. Big Cheese has ‘poster specials’ thumbnail images at the top right of their cover and cut out images of members from different bands at the bottom. Whereas Rock Sound has only one other picture, other than the main feature, at the bottom of the right corner. Both magazines are quite diverse when it comes to font for the headings and sub-headings. Rock sound has a approximately considerable 19 different fonts, however Big Cheese only has an approximate 9. Both magazines advertise the majority of their features inside the magazine on the cover in bold quirky sub headings and images. Rock sound has a barcode at the bottom of the cover and a price of £3.80, big Cheese also has a barcode but no price featured on the cover.
