MUSIC MAGAZINE MAIN FEATURE ANALYSIS

In this double page spread they aren’t using a drop cap to being their article but they are using a kicker with a gutter between the article body and images. They are also using a sidebar as well. Immediately by looking at this double page spread you know that the article is about live music. The main clue is the main feature image taking up the majority of the centre which is of a band member performing live as well as an assortment of other images of performing bands and crowds. The images alone tell us what the article on the left side of the page will be about, without having to read it. The main headline ‘Lives’ is at the top left corner with many subheadings below that. ‘Avenged sevenfold’ is another main headline to indicate what the article is about and which band is featured in the pictures on the right.  This double page spread is from a music magazine called ‘Kerrang’ who have come up with their own rating system, instead of stars they use ‘K’s to show how much they rate the review. At the bottom left corner they also have a small interview piece from the lead vocalist of the band. Each image has its own pull quote sib headings to tell the reader what is going on in the images.

In this double page spread the kicker is at the top left of the page, highlighted in white in black font – this sets it apart from the rest of the article. In this article they use a drop cap to begin with and pull a quote out later on this is to grab our interest. The body text of the article is made to fit around the image and the ‘white’ space around the article fades into the image. The main headline ‘A day to remember’ is on the right side of the double page, unusually, instead of the left. Plus the headline is in one of the bands logo fonts. The first thing you notice about this double page is the picture, which is of a band. In the picture the band are all standing together and pulling the same facial expression, this could indicate that the article is about the entire band as a whole. They’re not posing with band equipment. It’s just a picture of them, instead of them performing with drums and guitars which could suggest its review on a show.
